Saving Water

Replacing our aging toilets with low flush models and our shower heads to water saver showerheads, plus fixing a drippy faucet, cut our water useage in half.

I run both the dishwasher and the washer when I have enough to fill them so we do not waste water or electric there.

I do not save rainwater because there is no way to keep it from attracting mosquitoes. I could buy a rain barrel but, around here, they are quite expensive. In the case of rain barrels, green does not save green (money).

We do not water our lawn hardly ever, but I do water my small vegetable beds when there is a time of no rain. I use grass from the lawn mowing as mulch to retain moisture and plant the plants close enough together that it shades the ground somewhat.
